The faith of immigrants from Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Kenya, Tanzania, and elsewhere has shaped and continues to shape the character of Minnesota and its famous institutions. Some of our great state's most famous institutions including schools, colleges, universities, and hospitals--not to mention worshipping communities--are a result of people acting out of their Lutheran faith in public. We are blessed by Concordia University, Concordia College, Gustavus, St. Olaf, Fairview Hospital, just to name a few. Lutheran Social Services has even shaped the culture of Minnesota by helping to bring refugees from around the world. The ethnic diversity of Minnesota today and many of the traditions we treasure arose out of the Lutheran faith of many Minnesotans.
