Perhaps no invention has more affected the American culture and economy than the automobile. One of the more interesting developments around the 1950s was the drive-in. There were drive-in movies, banks, liquor store windows, etc. They reflected an era of affluence, a more informal culture and a desire for convenience.The restaurants, however, were the most visible examples of this trend. My choice for one to be featured would be Porky's, opened on St. Paul's University Avenue in 1953.
