Talk:Hall Brothers New Orleans Jazz Band

From MN150

Thanks for linking to Butch Thompson's piece on Doc Evans. Although I nominated the Hall Brothers band, I think Doc Evans really should have been included in the MN150 as well. The centennial of his birth (in Spring Valley, Minn.) was celebrated this month (October 2007) at Carleton College, his alma mater, and the participants included Butch, Charlie DeVore and Bill Evans (no relation) of the Hall Brothers band, who followed in Doc's footsteps in the 1950s. Doc had a national impact in the 1940s and '50s and was a mentor to the Hall Brothers band, who, in turn, opened up the world of New Orleans music to thousands of Minnesotans. Doc Evans left a lasting legacy of education and pure enjoyment of the roots of America's popular music. -- Dick Parker
