How the MN150 Were Selected
In September 2006 the Minnesota Historical Society launched a campaign in which we asked every Minnesotan to tell us what people, places and things make Minnesota . . . Minnesota. More than 2,700 nominations poured in through e-mails, phone calls, letters and State Fair "nominations-on-a-stick." A committee of Minnesota Historical Society staff, community members and subject experts read the nominations and evaluated them for quality of argument; geographical, topical and chronological distribution; diversity of experience, culture, gender and more. In addition, each topic selected sparked real, enduring change.
As exhibit developer Kate Roberts has said, "In putting together MN150 we chose 150 topics, but we could have selected 150 completely different subjects and still made a compelling argument for each. That's why we invite the public to let us know what they think, either via the exhibit gallery video feedback station or the related web site at www.mnhs.org/mn150wiki."
We are pleased and gratified that MN150 is sparking conversations about our history all over the state.
