Paul J. Dovre was born on a farm near Minneota, Minnesota, which is in west central Minnesota, in 1935. He moved from that farm to a farm near Porter, Minnesota. He went to country school and then went to high school at Canby, Minnesota. A 1958 Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota graduate, Dovre retired as Concordia's eighth president in 1999 after 24 years of distinguished service. He has remained active in higher education through prominent roles as a visiting scholar at Harvard University, interim dean of students at Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., and most recently as interim president at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, from May 2001 to March 2002. And then returned to Concordia as Interim President for a year. He is known and remembered for his love of education and his ability to welcome students to Concordia College and to follow Concordia's mission statement by sending into the world thoughtful and informed men and women dedicated to the Christian Life!
