Dr. Borlaug is probably best known as the Father of the Green Revolution. He is credited with saving over a billion people from starvation through his successful use of biotechnology in creating a high-yield, disease-resistant wheat variety. Dr. Borlaug continues to give lectures, teach, and promote activism. I am proud to be a graduate in Soil Science from the Department of Soil, Water, and Climate located in Borlaug Hall, Saint Paul MN.

Plant Pathologist and Winner of 1972 Nobel Peace Prize for founding the Green Revolution by developing short-statured wheat. Continued his work in Mexico, Africa and other locations including India where in his mid-90s he continues his work of feeding the world. Widely credited with saving more human lives than any other person in history. Will be back to visit the U of M Deptartment of Plant Pathology in Mid-September. Earned his undergraduate degree in Foresty and both graduate degrees (MS and PhD in plant pathology) from the University of Minnesota. The new Agronomy/Plant Pathology bldg on the St. Paul campus bears his name.
