Runner-up Nominations

I would like to nominate Hamilton H. Judson and the Farmington Post office. Hamilton Judson was a postmaster at the Farmington Post office. He was very instrumental in establishing rural free delivery of the mail. This was the first rural delivery system west of the Mississippi and possibly the first in the nation, if not the first, certainly the second. The Dakota County Tribune described Hamilton H. Judson as 'the greatest of all citizens' for his sacrifice and service as postmaster. He proved to the federal government that mail could be delivered daily to rural areas and helped obtain the 'model postal road.'

Currently underway in Farmington is an effort to name Farmington Post Office. We developed a process and obtained input from the citizens and overwhelmingly the citizens chose to have the post office named after Hamilton H. Judson. Legislation authored by Congressman John Kline is currently working its way through Congress.
