Mark has worked for the past 20 years in developing local sustainable agriculture. He's done far more things than can be mentioned here but he's especially known for the creation and operation of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy. His work with farmers has affected major agricultural policy not only in Minnesota and the US but in Europe and Asia.
I barely even know but a smidgeon of what he's done but you can find tons of info on him on the internet. He's very recently involved with voter rights and has had a national impact on voter registration. You probably are avoiding politicians for these honors but he is now running for Secretary of State. If he wins, he would be working in that office in 2008.
