Award-winning author, Louise Erdrich, was born Karen Louise Erdrich in 1954 in Little Falls, Minnesota. Soon after, her family moved to North Dakota, where she was raised. Her mother was born of Ojibwe-French heritage and her father of German-American heritage. Louise's relatives in Little Falls owned Erdrich's Meat Market.
Many of Louise Erdrich's novels deal with Native American issues. Her books include 'Love Medicine,' 'The Beet Queen,' 'Tracks,' 'The Bingo Palace,' and 'The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse.' Her book, 'The Master Butcher's Singing Club,' features a photograph of her ancestor, the butcher, Louis Erdrich. Louise owns an independent bookstore in the Twin Cities called The Birchbark.
