This Minneapolis native oversaw much of the allied invasion of North Africa. He was appointed Chief-of-Staff of the 20th Air force and Deputy Chief-of-Staff for the United States Army Air Division . In 1947, he was named Deputy Chief-of-Staff for the US Air Force. He retired from the Air Force in 1963, after a 33-year career in the US military. He died in 1988, after an eventful life of serving his nation.
