Hassler is a master at bringing the characters of small town Minnesota to life, truly a treasure.
~Bob Willis, St. Paul, MN
Hassler is my favorite living author, an excellent novelist; he writes mostly about people in northern Minnesota.
~Jamison Cockerham, Minneapolis, MN
My nomination is Jon Hassler, arguably the best living writer in the state. Starting with the publication of Stagggerford, his first novel, he has produced a dozen or so works that create a fictional Minnesota landscape that centers around the Badbattle River. He has a national reputation and has mentored many local writers. He has taught in Minnesota high schools and colleges. Recently, the Rural America Writer's Center has been established in Plainview, Minnesota, where he lived as a young boy.
