Joe Numero is best known as the founder of the Thermo King Corporation, the world's first manufacturer of truck refrigeration. Numero's invention revolutionized the American food industry. Today, Thermo King is still the world's largest truck refrigeration company. In 1991, Joe received the National Medal of Technology together with Fred Jones, the brilliant African-American inventor and chief engineer for Thermo King. Joe and Fred had both passed away by 1999, and their widows, Blanche Numero and Lucille Jones accepted the awards on their husbands' behalf at the White House Rose Garden.
