My grandfather, Henry Cummings, was a retired detective with the St. Paul Police Department. In 1934, he was called back into service for a sting operation to clean the city of gangsters. While in the Lexington Avenue Apartments, he shot John Dillinger in the leg. Dillinger escaped to Chicago where he was later killed. We donated Henry's revolver to the MN Historical Society a few years ago.
