In 1967 Goodrich Lowry created a non-profit group, the Metropolitan Nature Centers (MNC) with a number of local businessmen, to open the first
truly public nature center in the Metro area. Lowry Nature Center in Carver Park Reserve in Victoria opened in 1969, with Richardson and Eastman Nature Centers in the following few years.
Every year, more than 60,000 visitors visit Lowry Nature Center alone, of which 27,000 are school children. These nature centers provide an opportunity for people to explore and learn about their natural world, about environmental stewardship and provide a place for people to just relax and connect with the outdoors.
