Frances Hoffman Lavine

Hoffman founded a very successful, professional children's theater company in Duluth. Its first season was 1928-29 apparently it went into the 1940s at least. She employed, among others, Arnie Nybeck, who did sets for her and went on to a big career as a designer elsewhere. Frances' son, John, lives in Chicago. I knew Frances, who died in 1999 at age 93. She was apparently a very well-known local figure in Duluth and Superior, where she moved because her husband edited the Superior paper. Frances' obituary was front page in the Duluth paper.
