As a teenager canoed with companion Walter Port 2,250 miles from the Twin Cities to Hudson's Bay along the Minnesota and Red Rivers. Wrote the book Canoeing with the Cree and later became newspaper / TV correspondent and commentator on the CBS Evening News.
