My father, Robert R. Byrnes, was the first person to collect due to emphysema.
My father was turned down for disability monies in '62 when he couldn't work due to emphysema. My mother, Adele Byrnes, wrote to Hubert Humphrey, and in 5 days my father was collecting monies for emphysema.
My mother's courage, love for husband and children and research and writing letters made it possible for people today who suffer from emphysema to be able to collect monies when so ill.
