Carl T. Rowan, as a syndicated columnist here at the Star Journal in the 1950s, earned the reputation of The Most Visible Civil Rights Advocate in Journalism. His writings helped put Minnesota on the map as a state of high moral values that stood up for the civil rights of all citizens. His popularity soared during his stay in Minnesota and helped move him to appointments by U.S. presidents to positions of prominence in our federal government.
