Bud Grant was Minnesota's first icon of the new media age. Before him there were more compelling figures but he was the one that the nation and world remember because of his four Super Bowls. Standing on the sideline with snow swirling around, stoically chewing gum with his headset on, Bud represented the true Minnesota sportsman who wouldn't let a little bit of weather keep him away. Bud wouldn't let his own players have heat on the sideline. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors of Minnesota. I feel that Bud represents Minnesota in the state's truest form. Minnesota is a liveable, vibrant area whose natural beauty should be enjoyed without heeding the call to insulate oneself from its occasional harshness. Bud represented the state's toughness and uniqueness in the American landscape.

Bud Grant stands for MN football. He had morals, discipline and loved the sport. That is when football was real.
