One of the oldest humans found in North America, maybe the oldest, arose in Browns Valley, Minnesota. Browns Valley Man, reburied in accordance with Native American sanctity, is dated to at least 9,000 years ago. According to our state archeologist he may be among the oldest humans ever found in North America. He was found in 1933 and lost for some time. Browns Valley Man combines elements of the first humans in Minnesota, the geological formation of our state and the Native American view on the treatment of their ancestors, as well as our view of history. The discovery was made at the start of the Great River Warren which emptied Lake Agassiz, and calls into question the derivation of man in the Western Hemisphere.
