Austin Ladies Floral Club

Other Nominations
The impact of women's clubs on Minnesota's culture can hardly be overlooked. The first one known is the Austin Ladies Floral Club in 1869. By itself it is probably not likely to make it on the list of 150, but as a representative of a tradition of women gathering for educational, social, political and other endeavors, it merits mention. From gardening to suffrage, housewives' leagues of the 1920s to consciousness-raising groups of the 1970s, women gathered in clubs to get things done.
