Amos Heilicher was the owner of a jukebox vending company that expanded into the recording company "Soma Records" in 1957. During the 1960s Soma Records signed many local bands, including the Fendermen, the Castaways, the Gestures and the Trashmen. These groups went on to have national hit singles and to establish Minnesota as a hotbed for rock music. This paved the way for successful 80s artists like The Replacements, Husker Du, Prince, The Time, and Soul Asylum.
